"Furthermore you are to bow when I enter the room"
Horacio the young prince said to Jemmy
Ill-bred young prince
The whipping boy now lives in the palace
Jemmy caught rats in the sewers
The best fighting rats
He has an education now reading writing sums
No corporal punishment for Horacio only Jemmy
Several times a day
They runaway to the countryside
Encounter Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater
Highwayman and henchman
A girl has lost her dancing bear
A man with a wagon full of potatoes
They sit down to eat together
Tomorrow they’ll start another adventure …
Red Wolf Journal Spring 2014, and a fresh start

And we shall all bow down to the characters as they enter a new adventure. Fun and very imaginative!
ReplyDeleteWell said, Pamela!
Happy Sunday!

Sometimes being a whipping boy isn't so bad :). You've craft a very lovely little adventure here Pamela.
ReplyDeleteOh wow... I remember that book from when I was, what, six or seven years old? Thanks for this re-awakening of that world, it was always one of my favorites as a kid. (Not that I'd want to live in it. It was just really interesting and 18th-century and whatnot.)
ReplyDeleteSo glad the first line comes from drama and not marriage! Seriously, great connection between the prompt and your environment. Fun and entertaining poem, Pamela!
ReplyDeleteJDM
That was the second thing I heard after reading the prompt!

Mark,
ReplyDeleteThanks and may they have fun.
Pamela

I don't know this children's book Pamela.
ReplyDeleteName? I love adventure stories. When I went to school we had to stand when a teacher
entered the room.
Have to admit I'm not familiar with this children's book, Pamela. I'd love to know the title. And tomorrow we'll start another (poem) adventure, too!
ReplyDeleteI never read the book or watched the movie, but I like your poem. :)
ReplyDeleteRall,
ReplyDeleteThe name is "The whipping boy". And I just watched the film last night. It was fantasy filled and delightful. I used to work in a Catholic school where my students stood when I came in. For me it was a strange custom.
Cheers
Pamela
Marianne,

from Therese B -- I've never read the book or seen the movie either, but that first line was a grabber! Good choice to lead the reader into the rest of the poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks Therese. It is funny I was watching that movie when I got the prompt. The movie is cute.
