It curls around my senses
Enwraps me into ecstasy – remembering
Water flowing in a cascade
Aromas of a kitchen …
Mother smiling and laughing
Chopping, stirring … a taste of home
Water rushing on the shore
Where seagulls look for morsels
Hot summer days and cold winter nights
Scents that excite the inner self
To bring back memories of comfort
Like a blanket wrapped tightly
round my shoulders – warmth
Soothing
Loving
Fragrances of life

ReplyDeletePamela,
ReplyDeleteI too can relate to your words and thoughts about smells and fragrances.
My mother's home made soup and the sweet smell of summer. So beautiful to recall!
Best wishes, Eileen

ReplyDeleteSmells evoke the most powerful memories and I like the way your poem expresses that.
ReplyDeleteDearest Pamela,

ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed, Pamela. Brought back my own memories of childhood kitchen smells. Nothing like walking in the door after coming home from school to the smell of chocolate chip cookies.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone and yes memories are a thing to hold on to.
