a show #88 monday poetry train

my guests sit round the living room

easy chairs and baseball caps

booze overflowing in their cups

notebooks and ballpoint pens

In front of the flat-screen tv

waiting for the Zap Girls to come on

they wear glitter eye-wear and fancy bracelets

barely anything else

It is one of the original peep shows

broadcast nationwide

porn with bubbles

the main star is Rascal

(I think she has big ears)

It is a trifling matter to my guests

they try not to get too philosophical

(mostly they are tubular and stupid)

I never fluster round them and

don’t show any sarcasm

though I secretly scorn their behavior

I’ll do my task today and serve them

sauerkraut and sausage platters

Is this what I was born for?

  1. LOL, I hope not! Wow, Pamela, what a snapshot of life you've presented. I really like this piece. I can see the party unfold. Sorry if you really have to sit through it, good Lord! Dang ears are the least of most viewers worries. haha!

  2. Brenda thanks and no this is not reality.
I think I would have to move.
The worst I sit through is football and believe me that is enough!

  3. Pamela, you created a good scene, one which would indeed be miserable. Sauerkraut and sausage platters sound German. Glad to see you at Poets United, too. I'm out of town at the moment, so not quite as poetic as I'd like to be, but will be back home soon.

  5. Serving guests, I know how it is. I often throw movie parties (I'm an avid film buff). This is a wonderfully written poem! I enjoyed reading it.

  7. Paints a very real picture, all the better that it's fiction.
