People disappoint me all the time
Tongues that cut you with
static words . . . blackness
Crammed down my throat
Cross expressions . . . meant to hurt
Shambles follow on incandescent trails
To make me feel unworthy
Stomp on you
All of this I cross
Safely tucked away
I utilize it
In times like these
A sense of humor
Is my favourite possession

This is wonderful! Love where the prompt took you...sometimes I feel the only thing keeping me from black despair is a sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cynthia and it is so true for me!
ReplyDeleteThank you for an excellent prompt!
Pamela
Pamela, Love it! Thanks for sharing this piece. It speaks volumes. Laugh every day.
ReplyDelete~Brenda
Mine too! Well done; this is a wonderful take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there are other attributes that are important, obviously, but a sense of humour leavens all, and takes the sting out of so much that irks us. And you have written the poem beautifully.
ReplyDeleteMy sarcasm saves me from my despair. I loved it.
ReplyDeletehalf-way through
Neither pessimist nor optimist - just a realist, with a priceless possession.
ReplyDeletePamela, I love this. In this crazy world, one just has to keep one's sense of humor....OR go crazy with the world. LOL. Nicely expressed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful possession to have, Pamela! I love that your possession isn't a tangible thing, but a part of you.
ReplyDelete- Dina
I agree with you absolutely! When my son married, a camera went around asking for advice for marriage. I said, "Laugh as much as possible." I am honored to read your emotions, and that you love laughter.
ReplyDeleteLike how you hold off on revealing the possession until the end. Very cleverly done.
ReplyDeleteI wish more people in this world had a sense of humor. Great post!
ReplyDeleteGotta love those possessions that can never be taken from us - even if we occasionally misplace them. The abstract mitigates the sting of the concrete. Nice, Pamela!
ReplyDeleteYes—that sense of humor sees things for what they are.
ReplyDeleteGreat read on the prompt.
Thanks Brenda and it certainly does for me!
ReplyDeletePamela
Thank you tillybud
ReplyDeletePamela
Viv I agree there are other attributes
ReplyDeletebut without my sense of humor I would be a very sad person! Thanks for the nice compliment
Pamela
Stan thanks and yes it is priceless
ReplyDeleteI am a realist definitely!
Pamela
Thanks Mary and I think I am a little crazy which
ReplyDeletecertainly does help lol!
Pamela
Thanks Dina and it is good to see you back!
ReplyDeletePamela
Thanks Diane and laughter as they say is the best medicine!
ReplyDeletePamela
Thanks Twitches!
ReplyDeletePamela
Thanks Weasel and I wish the same
ReplyDeleteor at the very least the hypocrites who claim to have one were honest with themselves!
Pamela
Thanks Paul and it is my finest possession!
ReplyDeletePamela
Thanks Linda and yes that is very true!
ReplyDeletePamela
I know the feeling.
ReplyDeleteI have a tendency to use humor more when I'm nervous or tired. I figure if they are smiling or laughing I could get out alive, and laughter makes it easier to find sleep than dark brooding thoughts. I really like what you did with the prompt, and especially the way that you did it.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Thanks EKS!
ReplyDeletePamela
Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteThanks and I have lost sleep over dark brooding thoughts in my past and I decided a long time ago to let laughter help me through those times
because in this life they occur more than we like!
Pamela
good one Pam...Humour is good....even when Vreni calls me goofy...and my daughters just say daaaaaaaaaaaaaad...so guess i aint really funny just goofy...while i talk to myself and laugh...happy trails
ReplyDeleteGood going, Pam!
ReplyDeleteWayne thanks and can`t we all be a bit goofy sometimes!
ReplyDeletePam
Barb thanks for saying that ;)
ReplyDeletePam
The world would be a sorry place without a sense of humour to help gild a few dark corners. As a fellow Piscean, I was born with the ability to laugh at myself, too, for I think it comes with the territory, and is certainly the best part! Let's face it, much of life is laughable! :)
ReplyDeleteJinksy so you are a Pisces also we are a screwy
ReplyDeletebut at least interesting lot! I can laugh at myself and at the weird things other people do!
(If I do not laugh I will cry)
Pamela
Hear, hear. A sense of humor goes a long way in life. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cara!
ReplyDeletePamela
A sense of humor is vital possession these days! And I'm glad we get to share yours here.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! You've got a handle on the important possession!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Francis.

Susan
