The animals in my life we write poems "23 ¨a visit to the zoo¨

Landfills and diamond mines.
Disastrous new beginnings.
As snakes crawl through
fertile soil:feeding on humanity.

Old storage spaces and damp cellars.
Intricate woven patterns spin,
as spiders walk in the dark:
Catching flies.

In fields, on mountains and crowded
city streets: the cougar stalks its prey ...

  1. Pamela, I liked what you did with the prompt and where it took you. I especially like "as spiders walk in the dark". Far too many human animals out there at all times,

  2. You paint some of humankind a rather unattractive colour, Pamela! Hopefully you have more pleasant animal friends.

  3. Oh, so you are a cougar! Just kidding, tee hee. And land fills and diamond mines - pretty much the same thing. A charming poem, indeed!

  4. Landfills and diamond mines ARE disastrous new beginnings - I agree! And the imagery of putting trash in and taking out something precious still doesn't negate it! You hit the nail right on the head in a nice poetic way.

  5. Yikes! creepy, crawly things. But they are probably necessary. As long as they stay out of my way. Or me of theirs.

  7. Very strong poem, Pamela...love it! The other night a line of cars backed up waiting for the evening ferry in a relatively middle-sized city not to far from me, were startled when a poor cougar galloped past the lines of cars trying to figure out where the heck he had made a wrong turn , couldnt remember where the forest was. Poor critter. I hope he got away and didnt lose his life over his mistake.

  9. Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
(and Derrick in my experience most people have some redeeming qualities, but then there are those who are just too psycho to deal with).
Sherry I will have to check it out, I too hope the cougar made its way home safely.
