there were bells on the hill but I never heard them ...
dying in a cesspool of forbidden shit
I hate forbidden shit
It reminds me of the apples I ate when I was non-cancerous
the smell of the death-ward is kinda nice
it reminds me of tricycles
no I never heard them at all ' til there was ...
a festering silence overcomes this habitat
and it ain't a gerbil cage, baby
and there was music, and wonderful roses, they tell me ...
always wondered who the fuck "they" were
if jesus lived in an underwear drawer
then the words would come out sweeter
If Gita lived in my mouth
then surgery would be cleaner
I still wish I was there with Auntie May
drinking her dirt cider
and hoping for redemption

Pamela, a really powerful poem, images that are so intense.
ReplyDeleteYeah, who are 'they'?
ReplyDelete'the smell of the death-ward is kinda nice

Love the Beatles song'Til there was you' interspersed thoughout..love that song..The Pope is going to be seriously pissed off when he finds out that Jesus has been living in your underwear drawer amongst the rosary beads. You and Francis will be in the black book!
ReplyDeleteThat mix of beautiful memories and stark reality from which we can never escape. Powerful words, Pamela.
ReplyDeleteThere must have been aunts in the aether this weeks.
ReplyDeleteThis knocks me out, Pamela. That's a great voice.
SO much better than the original
ReplyDeleteUma,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment.

ReplyDeleteYou know who they are, come on don't pull my leg ;) Thanks
Pamela
Rall,
ReplyDeleteAre Francis and I really in trouble? Oops! Loved the prompt! And do you remember that song is from "The Music Man". The Beatles just covered it. Oh my age is showing, yikes!
Thanks,
Pamela

Thank you Marian.

The Jesus and Gita observations are priceless. I hadn't picked up on the "till there was you" connection, but that adds a whole other brilliant dimension. Tell Rall the Pope doesn't scare me (as long as he stays in Rome).
ReplyDeleteThanks for that Francis!
