"Relating to Another" Writer's Island #23 prompt: Contingent

It is the soffit of beginnings
When loving something completely
a piece of it stays with you,
a small exfoliated portion,
its imprint left behind

A filum that runs behind you causing
mixed curiosities, sadness
Every night you lose your feelings,
only for them to return at sunrise

Trying to mask outer mishaps
whenever it is convenient …
so compartmentalized,
like your suitcase on a terrazzo floor
by a wilted fern with a fly buzzing round,
keeping time in spaceless anxiety

Surrounding parity keeps
severe situations from entering
Breathing hangs heavy in stifling air
Portions are erased but never lost

  1. Great depth to this and I think most people could relate.

  2. Pamela, even though my poem was "found", we were obviously on a similar wavelength. I look forward to coming here and finding your fluidity with language and imagery. You really have developed a very unique voice. Another wonderful poem,

  3. This has the ring of metaphysical to me, Pamela. I love your style.

  4. Some gorgeous similes here. Your poems always merit several readings.

  5. I love "spaceless anxiety .... and I know how you feel, but I do believe that feeling change over time. They may not disappear, but for me they change.

  6. Flaubert, this was flawless:)
Read it a couple of times to absorb its mystic realms within..Amazing writing!
